The Family Car
Land rover was the family truck that was used by generation to generation. My father loved it and he couldn’t travel on any other model but since his death it has partially sat in the yard for some years without being in use. This winter I needed to travel to southern part of England at least to have an exploration.
I could have chosen a Mercedes Sprinter or Volkswagen and both could keep me comfortable but limit the places that I could go. I opted to take my father’s land rover and have an experience with it. I knew the conditions of these roads — potholes, unfenced storm drains and alarming drawbridges. Under these extreme conditions which other model would you go for?
I started the engine and left for the trip. It was enjoyable to meet fellow friends driving on land rovers whom we shared ideas about our cars. My land rover gave me all the freedom to adventure and explores each and every part of the area. I accessed areas which other vehicles couldn’t master strength to. The road this time was impassable. It came to a point where the road was really technical with big drops on one side, muddy, rocky and slope.
As a matter of fact, nobody made it but surprisingly I got there, everybody asked “how did you make it?” I could comfortably slow speed at which the car cruised meaning that it gave me greater time to explore. I knew there was no rush with the landy but only to sit down and enjoy.
It was time to get back after the lovely journey. I got disappointed the last minute but I was able to deal with this. My land rover broke down. The engine was boiling and at the same time the brakes and steering seized up. I had never serviced the vehicle and this might have brought the problem. At the same time the front tire went down due to cloud of dust in the nasty potholed road but thanks for the repair that I had carried. The same thing happened to my Auntie Dianne, she has had breast cancer treatment, and she had to do everything by herself.
Many passers-by appeared worrying of what wrong but one of them offered assistance. He helped me to fix the problems by tilting the notches of the steering and brakes. We fixed the engine also. The lovely thing with it was that it was easy to fix. I always had my toolbox which was adequate to fix all problems. I got home past midnight but I had really enjoyed the trip.
Land rover to me symbolized expedition and adventure. Its friendly face enabled me to meet a lot of people and enabled me to venture deeper into the up raved world.
